NEW ROWE FOR GOVERNOR AD FOCUSES ON BATH IRON WORKS' JOBS

by: RoweForGovernor

Wed Jun 02, 2010 at 15:54:44 PM EDT

"Winning the tough fights for Mainers has meant standing up for jobs.  That's what I'll do as Governor" says Steve Rowe.

Rowe for Governor unveiled its latest television ad today, highlighting Rowe's efforts to protect jobs at Bath Iron Works. The ad is running on television stations across Maine.

Said Rowe of the ad, "It's a simple story.   A few years back, Bath Iron Works' parent company was threatening to cut jobs unless it got a hefty tax break from the state.   The company said that it needed the tax break to build a new facility to remain competitive.  When Maine's state government stepped up to negotiate with BIW's parent, too much of our state's political leadership was ready to cut a deal that didn't do enough to protect jobs.

New Rowe for Governor Ad Features Rowe's Victories for Mainers, Bear Suit

by: RoweForGovernor

Mon May 24, 2010 at 16:43:27 PM EDT

"Together we've won some serious fights for Maine families.  But that's no reason to take ourselves too seriously," says Rowe.

Rowe for Governor today unveiled its first television ad of the campaign, a spot entitled "Not Me" that both highlights Rowe's record of winning on serious policy issues, and shows Rowe's willingness to take on standard political convention.

Said Rowe, "I've spent my life bringing together the best talent Maine has to win the tough fights for Maine families - taking on polluters and the Bush Administration to protect Maine's clean air and water; taking on the drug and insurance companies to deliver cheaper prescription drugs for seniors; and taking on the political status quo to make sure that the deal the state cut with Bath Iron Works actually protected both jobs and taxpayers.  I am proud of my record of fighting for Maine people."

ROWE ANNOUNCES "INNOVATE MAINE" PLAN

by: RoweForGovernor

Tue May 18, 2010 at 14:46:43 PM EDT

"The top job of the next Governor will be to create jobs.  I've got a plan to do just that," says Rowe.

Steve Rowe today announced his Innovate Maine plan for a creative, vibrant economy throughout the State of Maine.  The plan's central focus is creating good paying, sustainable jobs today and tomorrow.  It can be viewed at http://www.roweforgovernor.com...

Said Rowe, "State government alone cannot create jobs.  But, a government that promotes innovative policies in energy, education, infrastructure, capital markets, natural resources, tourism, health care and new, evolving growth industries (such as clean energy technology, bio-technology, advanced composites and software development) can create sustainable economic growth."

MOTHERS MATTER

by: RoweForGovernor

Sun May 09, 2010 at 16:58:02 PM EDT

Traveling on the campaign trail, I'm often asked who my heroes are.  I always reply that my mother and my wife are my heroes.

My mother, Doris, did not have an easy childhood.  She had to drop out of school after the 8th grade to care for her siblings.  Later, after marrying my dad, she cared for her own children.  She raised her children to value honesty, generosity, hard work and education.

As soon as her last child left home, my mother restarted her education.  At age 48, she got her GED and started to college herself.  Four years later, she graduated with a teaching degree.  She taught school for more than a dozen years. My mother's example inspired my strong commitment to lifelong learning.

My other hero is my wife, Amanda.  At age 26, I was a single dad with three small children.  My life revolved around caring for my children and my duties as an Army officer.  I met Amanda when I took one of my children to the Army hospital.  She was an Army pediatric nurse practitioner.  After a few visits, I got up the nerve to ask Amanda out on a date. Several months later, I asked her to be my wife.  She agreed.

Rowe to Honor IBEW Workers By Forgoing Ad Time on WGME-TV

by: RoweForGovernor

Thu Apr 22, 2010 at 15:48:46 PM EDT

"When it comes to supporting working families, we have to walk the walk." Says Rowe

Rowe for Governor announced today that it would forgo purchasing campaign advertising on WGME-TV, in solidarity with the workers of IBEW Local 1837 who are currently in contract negotiations with the station.  IBEW 1837 represents Operating Technicians, News Editors, Assignment Editors, Photographers, Engineers, Producers and Directors at the station who are involved in a labor dispute with WGME-TV management over a proposed 10% wage cut.

Said Rowe of the moratorium, "It's important that our campaigns live the values that will direct how we govern. I'm proud of my record of supporting Maine's working families.  I'm proud to stand with the workers of Local 1837 and their families."

ROWE VIDEO CONFIRMS MESSAGE OF OBAMA VISIT

by: RoweForGovernor

Tue Mar 30, 2010 at 16:54:29 PM EDT

"It's time to stop thinking of ourselves as a geographic outpost.  We can and should be the center of the world." Says Rowe.

Steve Rowe's campaign for Governor unveiled a new web video, "Maine in the Middle," timed to President Obama's visit to the state this week.  The video highlights Rowe's vision that the state needs to think of itself as being at the center of the map - a leader in creating jobs, a place right at the heart of the American political experience, and able to compete with an export to anyone.

HEALTH CARE FROM WASHINGTON TO AUGUSTA

by: RoweForGovernor

Wed Mar 24, 2010 at 08:02:27 AM EDT

Yesterday, President Obama signed the historic health care legislation which is a giant leap forward for America.

The passage of health care reform means our families will be healthier, our businesses will be hiring, and that our entrepreneurs will be freer to pursue their dreams without worrying about going without coverage.

And it means that our country and the state of Maine will be a more just and humane place.

I commend President Obama, and Representatives Pingree and Michaud for their work on this.

But as President Obama said Sunday, our work is not yet done.

One of the challenges our next Governor will face is making sure that health care reform lives up to its promise.

Maine's families still face a health care system that doesn't meet a lot of their needs -- and that federal health care reform will only begin to fix.

ROWE SAYS NO! STEVE ROWE OPPOSES ANTHEM'S 23% RATE HIKE

by: RoweForGovernor

Fri Mar 19, 2010 at 12:11:45 PM EDT

Yesterday a crowd rallied in front of the Cumberland County Courthouse to protest Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's law suit against the state of Maine.

In February the Maine Superintendent of Insurance denied a request by Anthem for a 23% rate hike. Anthem did not like the answer so Anthem is suing Mainers to keep their windfall profits going.  Last year Anthem made a record profit of $4.7 billion dollars.

Steve Rowe attended the rally and put out this statement:

"We need a new direction for Maine and increasing health insurance on Mainers is the wrong direction.  As Attorney General I had to defend Mainers on numerous occasions from Anthem rate hikes.  In these tough economic times, even after a record profit of $4.7 billion last year, Anthem still wants to make an even bigger windfall profit on the backs of Maine families and small businesses. We need to start putting Maine people ahead of corporate greed."

IT'S OFFICIAL!

by: RoweForGovernor

Tue Mar 16, 2010 at 10:34:45 AM EDT

Yesterday the Rowe for Governor campaign filed 2,300 signatures with the Secretary of the State putting Steve on the ballot in June! Steve collected these signatures the old fashioned way - neighbors asking neighbors.

This success was because of people who see Maine the way he does - a Maine which is in the center of the world - prepared to compete with anyone, anywhere, and right now. A Maine where every person has the opportunity to succeed because they have the tools they need.

WOMEN ACROSS MAINE ANNOUNCE "WOMEN ROWEING" IN SUPPORT OF STEVE ROWE'S CAMPAIGN FOR GOVERNOR

by: RoweForGovernor

Mon Mar 15, 2010 at 12:11:20 PM EDT

Today dozens of women from around the state joined Democratic Gubernatorial candidate Steve Rowe to kick off Women Roweing -- a statewide group of women organizing to support Rowe's candidacy.

Former Senate President, Beth Edmonds of Freeport, announced that, since the start of Women Roweing efforts last fall, more than 1,500 women have signed up to support Rowe's campaign.  Edmonds said, "Steve Rowe is the complete package we need now as Governor to create jobs and get our economy going again.  He's worked in private business, served in the military, and been our Attorney General. He knows how to take on the special interests and fight for the people of Maine.  He is filled with compassion and integrity.  In these times where there is great distrust of government, we need a leader who can restore faith in our government.  Steve Rowe is that leader."

Stephanie Cotsirilos of Orono worked with Rowe on many issues in his tenure as Attorney General and said, "Steve has a unique ability to understand the relationship between major economic issues and major social issues - he understands that a healthy Maine with healthy families means a healthy economy.  He has the vision and experience to create a practical plan to lead us out of the hole we're in. And he has the courage, integrity and leadership ability to successfully execute the plan."

ROWE OPENS PORTLAND CAMPAIGN OFFICE

by: RoweForGovernor

Sun Mar 07, 2010 at 13:36:26 PM EST

A crowd of supporters filled the Steve Rowe Portland campaign office to capacity at its official opening today.  The Portland office is located at 999 Forest Avenue, Portland. The Portland office is the second Rowe office to open. The first was in Bangor.

Rowe told his supporters, "We need to realize Maine is in the center of the world - prepared to compete with anyone, anywhere, and right now. To do that, we need to build a Maine with a vibrant economy, communities and healthy families; where every person has the opportunity to succeed; where we bring energy costs and health care under control so our businesses and people can thrive. We need to put Maine people first."

Following the opening of the office, volunteers canvassed door to door to collect the final signatures to qualify Steve for the June Democratic primary ballot.

YOUNG MAINERS FOR STEVE ROWE UNVEIL "GENERATION ROWE" CAMPAIGN

by: RoweForGovernor

Sun Feb 28, 2010 at 10:31:36 AM EST

Young Mainers supporting Steve Rowe's campaign for governor yesterday unveiled "Generation Rowe," a grassroots effort to connect young voters to Rowe's campaign and energize young voters' support.

The group promised an energetic campaign on Rowe's behalf.  The Generation Rowe effort promised to pursue old-fashioned tactics of peer-to-peer communications on campuses and in neighborhoods across the state, as well as cutting-edge outreach tactics like Facebook and Twitter.  The "Generation Rowe" page on Facebook already has 326 fans; no other Gubernatorial campaign in Maine has a similar public effort.  The group has a video available at:

A Leader Like No Other

by: RoweForGovernor

Tue Feb 16, 2010 at 19:37:39 PM EST

There is no issue that gets more quickly to the core of who Steve Rowe is, how effective he is as a leader, how he's made a difference for so many Mainers, and why he needs to be our next Governor, than what he's done to take on domestic and sexual violence.

Steve recognizes that domestic and sexual violence affects the health, safety, and productivity of thousands of Maine people.  And, he knows the difference between saying that he cares, and rolling up his sleeves to get to work.

As Attorney General, Steve was one of the foremost voices in Maine against domestic violence and sexual assault.  And, he didn't just talk about the problem.  He championed effort after effort aimed at preventing interpersonal violence.
