New ad targets Snowe on the public option

by: Gerald Weinand

Mon Sep 21, 2009 at 16:39:06 PM EDT

Progressive Change Campaign Committee and Democracy for Change have a new ad out targeting Sen. Olympia Snowe regarding her stand against the public option (link):

When you consider that 58% of Mainers favor "creating a government-administered health insurance option that anyone can purchase" (Daily Kos poll) and that only 35% favor a mandate requiring all Americans to purchase private health insurance without a public option (Maine People's Alliance poll), it brings into question just whom it is that Sen. Snowe is representing in Washington.

And even more of interest is that no one is bothering to target Sen. Susan Collins.

"...that only 35% favor a mandate requiring all Americans to purchase private health insurance without a public option..."

Sen. Snowe is actually on our side on this portion of the issue (or was last I knew). There was an article at The Hill stating this position, and I spoke with Sen. Snowe's office that day and they confirmed it at that time. This was early last week.

And even more of interest is that no one is bothering to target Sen. Susan Collins.

Because there is nothing to target.

This the entirety of a response I received by mail from Sen. Collins' office to an inquiry on health reform:

Thank you for contacting me with your views on health care reform legislation.

Reforming our nation's health care system and addressing the high cost of health care are among the most critical issues facing congress. Your comments about this debate are timely and much appreciated.

As this debate continues, I appreciate having your views.

That's it - minus the salutation and signature. She has no health insurance reform position to attack.

Classic Collins immediately after an election cycle. She avoids all controversy, and she's got 5 more years to foster an appearance responsiveness to her constituents.

But that voting record is still intact n/t (0.00 / 0)

Yes... so it is (0.00 / 0)

I have to chuckle that you mention that. I frequently tell people that I believe that the people of Maine would derive greater benefit from her emulation of a senator who has missed the most votes.

The ad itself has become news (0.00 / 0)
as this new video from PCCC shows:

Nice to see some reaction for once... n/t (0.00 / 0)
