The Bangor Baptist Church was the scene of a forum for US Senate candidates that focused on “values,” that is, positions important to Christian and other religious voters. The forum was sponsored by the Christian Civic League of Maine, Concerned of America and Mainers for Life. Rev. Bob Emrich was the moderator. About 150 people came to the event held 24 April 2012.
Opening statements. Charlie Summers was unable to attend, but had Rep. Doug Damon on hand to read a prepared statement.
Should Planned Parenthood be defunded?
Will you defend the Defense of Marriage Act.
Will you protect religious expression in public places?
Should abortion ever be legal?
Should civil rights always trump religious rights?
Closing statements. D’Amboise makes a point by stating he began to challenge Snowe long before she announced her that she was retiring, but stopped short of referring to his opponents as “carpetbaggers,” as he has done in the past. Afterward, I tried to ask Poliquin what part of the wall the piece of trim that he used as a prop came from, but he refused to answer my question. (I didn’t realize that props were allowed.)
